HENDERSON FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO A HOUSE FIRE

Henderson, Nevada -- At approximately 7:59 p.m. on Tuesday January 27, 2009, Henderson Fire Department units responded to a report of a structure fire at 996 San Carlos Creek. The residence is a single story track home located near the area of Boulder Highway and Equestrian.
The Fire Department arrived and found fire and smoke coming from the garage of a two story, single family dwelling. The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by loud explosions coming from garage. The occupants quickly exited the structure without injury. The first fire crews arrived and found a vehicle burning inside the garage with fire extension to the garage contents and living area of the first floor. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in the garage and made access into the home.
The home suffered structural damaged to both the garage area and floor joists to the second floor.  The rest of the home sustained severe smoke damage throughout. The damage is estimated at $85,000. The cause was determined to have started in a vehicle parked in the garage with the fire spreading to the garage and other contents.
A total of thirty personnel responded to fire. There were four fire engines, one ladder truck, two paramedic rescues, one safety officer, two battalion chiefs and an investigator dispatched to the call. The fire was extinguished within ten minutes of arrival of the first Fire Department unit.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Representatives from Nevada Power and Southwest Gas responded to secure the utilities to the residence. The family will be displaced from their home and are being cared for by the American Red Cross.
