Henderson Firefighters Partner With the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, Safe Kids Clark County, Henderson Fire Fighters Benevolent Association and Artistic Iron Works to Educate Community to Eliminate Drowning In Our Community

Las Vegas, NV – Henderson Firefighters are partnering with the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, Safe Kids Clark County, Henderson Fire Fighters Benevolent Association and Artistic Iron Works in producing a public service announcement about drowning prevention.  Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for young children four years and younger.  The majority of drowning deaths occur in the family swimming pool.  It only takes a few seconds for a child to slip away, become submerged underwater, and possibly suffer permanent brain damage or death. 

     According to the Southern Nevada Health District, last year Clark County experienced a record number of drowning's with 59 submersion incidents occurring in pools.  Together, the Henderson Fire Fighters and the Henderson City Council are working to put public safety first in their community.  Their goal is to ensure the fastest life saving response, while providing the highest level of care.

      “Through strategic planning, the Henderson Fire Department and the Henderson City Council have made a commitment to protecting our community by providing the fastest and highest level of care,” said Dan Pentowski, president of the Henderson Professional Firefighters Local 1883.  “We are also partnering with the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, Safe Kids Clark County, The Henderson Firefighters Benevolent Association and Artistic Iron Works to get this very important message out.  We are working together to have zero drowning’s in our community.”
